Is this a Dubrovnik depth charge? [attachment=1] Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: Dreadnought on September 09, 2009, 03:55:29 pm It's certainly looks like ... As far as I know, Dubrovnik had 4 depth charge thrower. I have no exact information what type ...
But to assume that RYN was in possesion of depth charges of Wickers type for they torpedo boats of Thornycroftu type, I guess that same manufacturer was used for the procurement of depth chages for Dubrovnik ... Of course this is pure speculation in the absence of accurate information ... ;) Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: Dili on September 09, 2009, 04:04:19 pm Thanks. Do you know if there are any place that could have that information? Museum, Archives?
Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: Dreadnought on September 09, 2009, 04:17:15 pm Archives of the RYN are mainly scattered in various institutions and museums ... There is no single database in to which you can find all in one place ... A large part of the documentation was destroyed in World War II.
You could try to contact the naval museum in Split (Vojno-pomorski muzej Split) ... Or you could wait the answer here with us on Paluba ... Maybe someone will know the answer :) Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: MOTORISTA on September 09, 2009, 04:18:36 pm It`s look like Vickers Type D depth charge on Depth Charge Release Track Type A
[attachment=1] [attachment=2] And this is a Vickers Mk VII DC [attachment=3] http://www.dockmuseum.org.uk/archive/browser.asp?subject=&title=&subtitle=&searchtype=1&deepcriteria=depth+charge http://www.hnsa.org/doc/destroyer/depthtrack/index.htm Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: Dili on September 09, 2009, 05:12:47 pm Thanks Motorista , Yes it seems similar to that model but most resemble each other. I should had a database of Depth charges photos. I also wondered since it could be an Austro-Hungarian model or even made in Yugoslavia since Yugoslavia made aerial bombs the issue would been only the pressure fuze.
Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: Dili on September 28, 2009, 12:32:23 pm Is it know what other Royal Yugoslav ships had depth charges besides destroyers? For example did ex.Austro-Hungarian Torpedo Boats had them?
I know that Italians have put Depth Charges in them. Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: brodarski on September 28, 2009, 09:37:59 pm RYN in 1937. on 30.July have 22 dept charges type '' Vickers '' purchased in Great Britain. For destroyer Dubrovnik 10 and for MTB 12 dept charges.
Later 25th March 1941. received anti submarines depth charges type '' Šebetić '', made in Yugoslav factory. Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: Dili on September 29, 2009, 11:10:57 am Wow :D excellent. Never heard before of those '' Šebetić '' depth charges, any data about them 50kg, 100kg?
22 depth charges seems very low, maybe some Austro-Hungarian around too? Do you know any for the Beograd class? It is cleary shown in photos and drawings a DC rail at back curiosly similar to British rails. Title: Re: Royal Yugoslav navy weapons Post by: Dili on February 06, 2012, 12:09:10 am Link with quality images of Austro-Hungarian era some of them employed by Royal Yugoslav Navy, like the 7cm and 9cm.
