NB-9 »BIOKOVAČ«
Prilikom kapitulacije Italije zatečen je u Hvaru stražarski brod (vedeta) koji je
pripadao talijanskoj ratnoj mornarici. To je inače bio manji drveni brod malo
neobične povijesti. Najprije je bio u sastavu talijanske pomorske financijske straže,
upotrebljavan za gonjenje krijumčara i ostalih prijestupnika na moru. Nakon toga
ušao je u sastav talijanske ratne mornarice kao stražarski brod. Za vrijeme okupacije
plovio je u vodama srednjodalmatinskih otoka vršeći patrolnu službu, sa
zadatkom da sprečava partizanske napade na konvoje i održavanje partizanskih
pomorskih veza, i da podržava talijanske kopnene snage prilikom raznih akcija
»čišćenja« po otocima Također je sudjelovao u kontroli ribolova i uopće prometa
na moru. Međutim, nije poznato koju je službenu oznaku nosio dok je bio u sastavu
talijanske ratne morannce.
Vedeta je predana s cjelokupnim naoružanjem i opremom prema ugovoru
potpisanom u Hvaru 12. seplembra 1943. između Lalijanske komande otoka i
predstavnika NOVJ. Prva posada vedete određena je u Hvaru. Ona je preuzela
brod od dotadašnje talijanske posade, od koje nitko nije htio ostati dalje na brodu.
Inače, brod je bio u dosta zapuštenom stanju, a problem je bio i motorni kompleks
 koji je trebalo upoznati. Nova posada je pored svih teškoća u kratkom vremenu
 upoznala brod i opremila ga za izvršavanje zadataka.
Taktičko-tehnički podaci nisu potpuno poznati, pa su prikupljeni od bivšeg
komandanta broda i Članova posade. Bio je dug 1 6 metara, širok 3,5 metra i gaz
mu je iznosio 2 metra. Imao je dva dizel-motora tipa »ansaldo«, svaki po 45 KS,
kojima je postizavao najveću brzinu od 10 čvorova. Bio je jedini od naoružanih
brodova tipa NB koji je mogao voziti s prigušenim motorima.
Prvo naoružanje mu se sastojalo od dva mitraljeza tipa »colt« koji su često
imali zastoj, zatim jednog puškomitraljeza i minobacača od 45 mm. Kasnije je u
remontnoj bazi IV pomorskog obalnog sektora Mornarice NOVJ u Visu izmijenjeno
 i dopunjeno, pa je bilo: na pramcu tri teška mitraljeza od 8 mm tipa »fiat«
 i »breda« ijedan protivavionski mitraljez od 1 3 mm »breda«, dok je na krmi bio
 teški mitraljez od 8 mm »breda«. Lično naoružanje se sastojalo od sedam pušaka,
 dva automata, pištolja i ručnih bombi. Posada je imala 7-9 članova. Samo je komandni
most bio obložen željeznim limom do visine prozora, a između lima i drvene oplate
 mosta nasut je pijesak. Također su na svim mitraljezima montirani štitovi.
Ime »Biokovac« dobio je već u septembru 1 943. Službena oznaka mu je bila
naoružani brod NB-9 »Biokovac«. Najprije je bio u sastavu Primorske flotile IV pomorskog
 obalnog sektora, kasnije je ušao u sastav flotile naoružanih brodova istog sektora

Na prvi zadatak NB-9 »Biokovac« isplovio je polovinom septembra 1 943. Na
brod se u Hvaru ukrcao komandant Biokovskog partizanskog odreda, koji je imao
zadatak da obiđe pojedine otoke i poluotok Pelješac radi upoznvanja situacije i
formiranja novih jedinica NOVJ. Najprije je isplovio iz Hvara za Vela Luku, gdje je
bio napadnut od njemačkog aviona, ali bez posljedica. Istog dana NB-9 »Biokovac«
isplovio je za Trpanj, a zatim produžio za Drače. Ukrcavši grupu domobrana
iz garnizona Janji na, koji su prešli na stranu NOVJ, NB-9 »Biokovac« ih je prebacio
za Mali Ston, odakle je isplovio za Podgoru gdje je službeno ušao u sastav Primorske
 flotile. NB-9 »Biokovac« ušao je u sastav Primorske flotile na traženje
predstavnika Pokrajinskog komiteta Komunističke partije Hrvatske za Dalmaciju
i komandanta Biokovskog partizanskog odreda zbog operativne situacije na sektoru
 Makarska - Ploče.
NB-9 »Biokovac« isplovljavajući iz Podgore'počeoje i noću patrolirati u Hvarskom
kanalu s ciljem da napada neprijateljski pomorski saobraćaj. Po danu bi se
maskirao u obližnjoj uvali, a uvečer bi uplovio u Podgoru. Po dobijanju zadatka odmah
bi isplovio na patroliranje, vrlo često gaseći motore i postavljajući zasjedu
na plovnoj ruti Makarska - Metković. Uz patroliranje izvršavani su i drugi zadaci:
prevoz kurira, ranjenika i pošte, uglavnom iz Makarskog primorja za Hvar, Brač i
Pelješac. Osim Podgore povremena baza NB-9 »Biokovac« bio je Gradac, odakle
je isplovljavao na određene zadatke po Neretvanskom kanalu. Jedne noćli došlo
je do susreta sa p/b »Rab« koji je bio u neprijateljskoj službi. S NB-9 »Biokovac«
otvorena je vatra na koju je p/b »Rab« uzvratio topovskom paljbom. Naša obalna
baterija iz Sućuraja otvorila je također vatru na p/b »Rab«. Međutim, zahvaljujući
jačem naoružanju i većoj brzini p/b »Rab« se izgubio u tami.
Krajem oktobra 1 943. NB-9 »Biokovac« uplovio je u Hvar. Uspostavom IV pomorskog
 obalnog sektora, koji je počeo da djeluje 30. oktobra 1943. u Hvaru,
NB-9 »Biokovac« dobio je naređenje da ponovo isplovi za Podgoru. Izvršavajući
naređenje 30. oktobra u 18,00 sati, isplovili su iz Hvara NB-7 »Enare II« i NB-9
»Biokovac« pod komandom komandanta IV pomorskog obalnog sektora. Zadatak
ove grupe brodova bio je da zajedno s NB-5 »Ivan«, koji je već bio u Podgori, patroliraju
 na sektoru Podgora - o Hvar radi sprečavanja neprijateljskog pomorskog
saobraćaja.
Nalazeći se na patrolnoj liniji noću 3/4. novembra NB-9 »Biokovac« se južno
od Makarske sukobio s neprijateljskim motornim jedrenjakom koji je plovio prema
Makarskoj. Na neprijateljski brod otvorena je vatra iz sveg naoružanja. Poslije
kraćeg i žestokog okršaja neprijateljski brod se izgubio u tami. NB-9 »Biokovac«
bio je oštećen od pogodaka po nadgrađu i oplati, dokje lakše ranjen komandant.
Prema njemačkim podacima, na neprijateljskom brodu bilo je ranjeno šest moranara
 i jedan oficir. Po uplovljenju u Drašnice rupe na oplati začepila je posada
brodskim sredstvima.
Nakon patroliranja noću 5/6. novembra NB-9 »Biokovac« isplovio je u Podgoru,
a zatim u obližnju uvalu, gdje je već bio NB-6 »Napredak«, koji je doplovio
iz Hvara. Oko 07,35 sati četiri saveznička lovca-bombardera napali su brodove
smatrajući ih neprijateljskim. Tom prilikom oštećen je NB-6 »Napredak«, dok je
na NB-9 »Biokovac« bila razbijena pramčana paluba, probijena oplata i tankovi
goriva, a kormilarnica i ostalo nadgrađe pogođeni su s više metaka. U brod je prodirala
 voda, koju je posada ispumpavala cijeli dan. Istu večer oba broda su isplovili
 za Sumartin na popravak u tamošnje brodogradilište.
Nakon završenog popravka NB-9 »Biokovac« se 11. novembra vratio u Podgoru
 i nastavio patrolirati. U Neretvanskom kanalu se susreo s dva neprijateljska
motorna jedrenjaka s kojima je vodio okršaj. Međutim, neprijateljski brodovi su
bili jači pa ih se nije moglo zarobiti, a uz to je već počelo da sviće, pa je NB-9
»Biokovac« uplovio u Gradac s jednim ranjenim mornarom.
Slijedeći zadatak bio je pratnja konvoja motornih jedrenjaka koji su iz Graca
prebacili zbjeg na o. Hvar.
Dijelovi 7. SS i 118. lovačke divizije otpočeli su 7. novembra 1943. napad
na područje Biokovo- Makarsko primorje radi zauzimanja obale od Splita do Ploča.
Naše jedinice su se zbog nadmoćnosti neprijatelja postepeno pod borbom
povlačile prema Makarskom primorju. Zbog nemogućnosti proboja u pravcu Aržana
i PosuŠja Štab 26. divizije donio je noću 14/1 5. novembra odluku da se sve
jedinice iz Makarskog primorja povuku na otoke. NB-9 »Biokovac«je u sklopu
ovog zadatka noću 1 5/16. i 1 6/1 7. novembra izvršio više vožnji na ruti Podgora
-o. Hvar- Podgora. Pratio je konvoje motornih jedrenjaka s ukrcanim jedinicama
i zbjegom, a i sam je prevezao grupu ranjenika i zbjega, lako su uvjeti za plovidbu
zbog jakog juga s kišom bili vrlo teški, posada NB-9»Biokovac«je uz velike napore
izvršila sve postavljene zadatka. Jedinice i zbjeg prevezeni su vrlo uspješno bez
ikakvih gubitaka.
Primorska flotila se noću 16/17. novembra povukla iz Podgore u uvalu Velika
Stiniva na o. Hvaru. Po naređenju Štaba IV pomorskog obalnog sektora Primorska
 flotila je 19. novembra uplovila u Vrbosku, a 23. novembra u Hvar. NB-9 »Biokovac«
je do uplovljenja u Hvar patrolirao noću uz sjevernu obalu o. Hvara. Pored
toga pratio je konvoje s jedinicama i zbjegom koji su plovili za Brač i zapadni dio
Hvara. Također je izvršio specijalni zadatak prateći neprijateljski pomorski saobraćaj
 ispred Ploča. Zbog toga se nekoliko noći uvlaćio u sam ulaz u luku Ploče,
gdje SOJ gašeni motori i vršeno osmatranje. Ovaj zadatak je bio vrlo Opasan jer su
na ulazu u luku bili bunkeri zaposjednuti od neprijatelja.
Noću 25/26. novembra 1 943. vladalo je jako nevrijeme u hvarskoj luci uslijed
 zapadnog vjetra. NB-9 »Biokovac« bio je usidren u Križnoj luci. Sidra su mu
orala, pa je prijetila opasnost da ga more i vjetar nabace na obalu i razbiju. Uz
velike napore posade brod je spašen od potapanja, ali je bio oštećen.
Po naređenju Štaba IV pomorskog obalnog sektora NB-9 »Biokovac« uplovio
je u Vrbosku na popravak u tamošnje brodogradilište Mornarice NOVJ. Popravak
je završen 5. decembra.
Zbog toga stoje neprijatelj koristio pomorsku komunikaciju Split- Makarska
- Ploče i obratno, čiji su brodovi plovili uz samu obalu, Štab IV pomorskog
obalnog sektora 29. novembra 1943. naredio je da baza Primorske flotile bude
Sućuraj na Hvaru, odakle će njeni.patrolni Čamci patrolirati po Hvarskom i Neretvanskom
 kanalu i napadati na neprijateljski porfiorski saobraćaj. Flotila je odmah
isplovila iz Hvara za Sućuraj, odakle je izvršavala postavljene zadatke.
Nakon popravka NB-9 »Biokovac« je 6. decembra uplovio u Sućuraj. Svake
noći isplovljavao je na patroliranje, a danju se maskirao u obližnjoj uvali
Prema posebnom naređenju Štaba IV pomorskog obalnog sektora upućenog Štabu
Primorske flotile, trebalo je da se u Neretvanskom kanalu presretne
jedan neprijateljski brod čija je posada bila spremna preći na stranu NOVJ. U vezi
s tim oko 20,00 sati 8. decembra 1943. isplovili su iz Sucu raja NB-9 »Biokovac«
i PČ-54 »Turist« sa zadatkom da neprijateljski brod koji je plovio iz Metkovića za
Split presretnu i doprate do Sućuraja. Komandant neprijateljskog broda javio je
preko naše obavještajne službe datum i sat isplovljenja iz Metkovića s napomenom
da će na brodu biti samo posada. Doplovivši do uvale Mala Duba (2,4 M
jugoistočno od Igrana), NB-9 »Biokovac« i PČ-54 »Turist« nastavili su vožnju uz
obalu prema Zaostrogu. Kada su bili u visini Drvenika, osmotrena je izmjena signala
s raketama između nekog broda i položaja na kopnu, pa je zaključeno da je
to vjerovatno brod koji očekuju. Vožnja je nastavljena do Zaostroga, a zatim se sastav
 vratio na poziciju blizu Drvenika gdje su zaustavljeni motori. Uskorojeopažen
neprijateljski brod, pa su se NB-9 »Biokovac« i PČ-54 »Turist« uputili prema njemu
i otvorili vatru. Ovaj je odmah smanjio brzinu i bacio bijelu raketu. Nakon toga
je s neprijateljskog broda spušten čamac, koji je doplovio do NB-9 »Biokovac«.
Njegova posada je izjavila da su spremni za predaju. U isto vrijeme grupa naših
boraca, koji su bili na obali, otvorila je puščanu i mitraljesku vatru. Posade naših
brodova su smatrali da su to njemački vojnici koji žele da pomognu svom brodu.
Radi toga su se oba broda malo povukli, pa opet krenuli prema neprijateljskom
brodu. Tada su čuli povike naših boraca s kopna, koji su i dalje pucali. Pribilživši
se neprijateljskom brodu, čuli su povike: »drugovi, mi se predajemo«. Nakon toga
NB-9 »Biokovac« i PĆ-54»Turist« su pristali uz neprijateljski brod. Dio posada oba
broda skočio je na palubu i počeo razoružavati neprijateljske vojnike. Također je
naređeno da zaplijenjeni brod uzme kurs k Sućuraju i da vozi svom snagom. Tek
tada se saznala istina. Zaplijenjeni brod bio je m/j»Jadro«, a pripadao je mornarici
tzv. NDH. Njegov komandant radio je za narodnooslobodilački pokret. On je poslao
 točne podatke kada će brod isploviti i da će osim tereta na njemu biti samo
posada. Međutim, uoči isplovljenja, kada se više nije moglo ništa javiti, na brod
je ukrcana grupa žandara, domobrana i Nijemaca koji su trebali biti iskrcani u
Omišu. Sve ovo je i stvorilo zabunu prilikom predaje, jer je posada morala voditi
računa o ukrcanim vojnicima. Naše posade su također bile iznenađene kada su
skočivši na palubu »Jadra« vidjele veći broj neprijateljskih vojnika. Međutim,
zahvaljujućli odvažnosti, snalažljivosti i odlučnosti posada NB-9 »Biokovac« i PČ-54
»Turist« i komandanta »Jadra«, te uz pomoć nekolicine simpatizera među domobranima
 i žandarima, zadatak je ipak uspješno izvršen. Na »Jadru« je zarobljeno 30
žandara i domobrana, 6 ustaša, 2 Nijemca, 10 članova posade, jedan potpukovnik
i jedan poručnik bojnog broda. Zaplijenjeni su 31 puška i 8 pištolja. Naoružanje
 »Jadra« se sastojalo od jednog protivavionskog mitraljeza od 1 5 mm, jednog teškog
mitraljeza od 8 mm»fiat«ijednogpuškomirtaljezaod 7,9 mm. Na brodu je zaplijenjeno
90 tona razne hrane i drugog materijala, koji je bio namijenjen
neprijateljskim garnizonima. Osim toga »Jadro« je prevozio i veći broj putnika civila,
uglavnom rodbine ustaša iz Omiša i Makarske. Prema njemačkim podacima,
zarobljavanje m/j »Jadro« vrlo se nepovoljno odrazilo na više rukovodstvo u
ratnoj mornarici NDH
»Jadro« je u pratnji NB-9 »Biokovac« i PČ-54 »Turist« doplovio u Sućuraj gdje
su iskrcani zarobljenici. Za vrijeme vožnje, prilikom razoružanja neprijateljskih vojnika,
 uspio je skočiti u more jedan njemački vojnik. Za njim je organizirana potraga,
 ali nije pronađen. Međutim, on je uspio doplivati do kopna, pa je izvijestio
svoje pretpostavljene kako je zarobljen »Jadro«. Po uplovljenju u Sućuraj brod sa
zarobljenicima predan je Štabu Primorske flotile, koji je o zarobljavanju »Jadra« izvijestio
 Štab IV pomorskog obalnog sektora u Hvaru. Odmah je naređeno da
»Jadro« uplovi u Vrbosku. Iste noći NB-9 »Biokovac« i PČ-54 »Turist« dopratili su
»Jadro« u Vrbosku, gdje je iskrcan sav teret hrane. »Jadro« je dobivši ime »Istok«,
uvršten u sastav transportnih brodova IV pomorskog obalnog sektora. Štab Mornarice
NOVJ naredio je 10. decembra 1 943. da m/j »Istok« odmah isplovi za Vis
radi prevoza ratnog materijala.
NB-9 »Biokovac« doplovio je iz Vrboske u Hvar noću 9/10. decembra. Budući
da su zbog stalnih vožnji motori bili u slabom stanju, komandant je izvijestio Štab
IV pomorskog obalnog sektora o potrebi hitnog remonta. Nakon odobrenja Štaba
Mornarice NOVJ, NB-9 »Biokovac« je 14. decembra isplovio za Vis gdje je u remontnoj
bazi ostao do 22. decembra. Sve radove izvršila je posada uz pomoć
Štab Mornarice NOVJ svojom naredbom br. 215 od 12. decembra 1943.
pohvalio je posade brodova NB-9 »Biokovac« i PČ-54 »Turist«, koje su se istakle
u zarobljavanju m/j »Jadro«.
NB-9 »Biokovac« se vratio s popravka u Hvar noću 22/23. decembra. Slijedeće
 noći bio je u patroli na sektoru rt Pelegrin fo. Hvar) - Pakleni otoci.
Poslije trodevnih borbi s iskrcanim njemačkim jedinicama Operativni štab za
Korčulu donio je odluku da se naše jed niče povuku na o. Hvar i Vis. Povlačenje
je započelo noću 24/25. decembra, kada je iz Hvara za Korčulu (Vela Luku, Bristovu,
 Papratnu i Prigradicu) isplovilo 20 motornih jedrenjaka. Nakon ukrcaja boraca
(dijelovi 13. dalmatinske brigade, 1. prekomorske brigade, Korčulanskog
partizanskog odreda, dva bataljona 1. dalmatinske brigade i dijelovi Vpomorskog
obalnog sektora) brodovi su isplovljava i, iskrcavali ih na Šćedro i Hvar, a zatim
se ponovo vraćali. Međutim, prevoz je bio djelomično poremećen uslijed jakog
juga s kišom, koje je ometalo vožnju
NB-9 »Biokovac« i NB-10 »Sloga« patrolirah su cijelu noć Korčulanskim kanalom
 vršeći posredno osiguranje, dok je NB-5 »Ivan« neposredno štitio konvoje.
Noću 25/26. decembra iz Hvara je, i pored vrlo jakog juga, isplovilo pet motornih
 jedrenjaka za Korčulu radi prevoza preostalih boraca. Međutim, samo su
se dva uspjela probiti do uvale Bristove gdje su ukrcali dio preostalih boraca, koje
su prebacili u Hvar.
Ukrcavši oficirsku patrolu iz 1. dalmatinske brigade, NB-9 »Biokovac« i NB-5
»Ivan« su iste noći pregledali sve uvale na otoku Korčuli od rta Proizda do Prigradice.
 Budući da u njima nije bilo boraca, oba broda su se vratili u Hvar.
Ponovo su noću 26/27. decembra upućeni iz Hvara za Korčulu NB-9 »Biokovac«,
 NB-5 »Ivan« i NB-10 »Sloga« sa zadatkom da uplove u pojedine uvale od
rta Proizd do Prigradice i ukrcaju preostale borce. Međutim, uspjeli su pronaći i
ukrcati samo 12 boraca koji su prevezeni u Hvar.

oficira koje je trebao iskrcati na vezi Hvar. Međutim, zbog jakog nevremena morao
se vratiti u Vis. Ovaj zadatak izvršio je noću 26/27. januara NB-2.
Noću 28/29. januara NB-9 »Biokovac« isplovio jeza Brač i Šoltu. Veza sa Šoltom

Question on NB-4 Topcider...

Here the armament is listed as including a 40mm and 20mm gungs


The model looks like it is armed with MGs only. Did she have an armament change?

Also, the 40mm/2pdr anti tank guns used wer not liked in the British Army for not having high explosive ammunition. Did the guns on the NOVJ boats have high explosive shells available or did they only have the solid shot/armor piercing ammuntion?

In the february of 1944 he was armed with 1x40 mm AT and 4x20 mm AA. On may 11th that year, he was mistakenly identified by Allied aircraft and damaged. After that he was renovated as medical ship, when his crew was reduced to 14 members, and his arms to 2x20 mm AA and 2x2x12,7 mm MG. He also had 24 beds for wounded soldiers.

Lenght: 17 m
Beam: 4,55 m
Draught: 1,7 m
Propulsion: one MAN diesel engine with 75 HP
Speed: 8 knots
Crew: 22 members ( later reducet to 14)
Armament: 1x40 mm AT, 4x20 mm AA ( later reduced to 2x20 mm AA, 2x2x12,7 mm MG)

As for the ammunition for 2pdr, we used only armour piercing shell. HE shell was made for this guns, but it was never placed in production.

Thanks. I am thinking the 40mm would have been on the bow. By any chance do you know if she had the gun position above the wheelhouse before the change? I am working on a model of the NB-4 right now!

The fact about only having AP ammunition is interesting. I would think that type would not be very effective against small ships.

Quite possible that 2pdr was on the bow and that he had an 20 mm Breda AA on the top of the wheel house.

The fact about only having AP ammunition is interesting. I would think that type would not be very effective against small ships.

That is true, but it was the heaviest weapon we had on our ships, so you use whatever you can get. Wink
