Nastao sredinom 50-ih godina prošlog vijeka na osnovu mornaričke specifikacije NA.39, a kao reakcija na narastajuću snagu sovjetske mornarice, Buccaneer je preko tri decenije predstavljao udarnu pesnicu britanskog RAF-a i RN. Tokom godina, taj avion neobične ljepote i skladnih linija, pokazao se kao izuzetna oružna platforma, velike pouzdanosti i gotovo nesalomive strukture. Na samom kraju svoje karijere je i u praksi pokazao sve svoje mogućnosti napadajući ciljeve po Iraku tokom Pustinjske oluje.
