Ministar nacionalne odbrane, Gabriel Oprea, danas je prisustvovao ceremoniji pokretanja nacionalnog programa "borbenog vozila pešadije 8 x 8". Ceremonija je upriličena u krugu fabrike Automecanica Moreni.

Armored troop carrier (TBT 8x8) will be an armored transport and combat designed to protect (at least 3) of a rifle against splinters, bullets, light weapons infantry, and against the effects of CBRN (chemical, bacteriological, nuclear radiation), while executing specific missions.
8x8 TBT based product platform is designed to:
- Configurable in different variants: troop, command point, recovery vehicle, ambulance, research, NBC, or fighting machine equipped with various weapons systems (12.7 mm caliber rifle, caliber 25 mm cannon and 7.62 caliber machine gun mm, 120 mm caliber pitcher, surface to air missiles or anti-tank).
- Integration of European Community and NATO-compatible equipment, fabricated Romanian involvement in NATO programs, creation of strategic partnerships, logistics support for the Romanian Army in the long term.
In order to accomplish the missions assigned, TBT 8x8 ensure and satisfy a number of requirements are grouped into the following categories: mobility, capacity for survival, its own firepower, command, control and communications.
