It was decided to put the KV heavy tank into production in December 1939, alongside the T34-76 medium tank.
The invading Germans received a major shock when they encountered the KV1 heavy tank in June 1941. |

There is Soviet heavy tank KV-1E (ecranirovanny - screened) (Panzerkampfwagen KV-1E 753(r)) was passing trial runs in the Russian village and captured by German's. The German identification marks were not put on the tank. Probably, the tank was recently captured in Leningrad area.
