Astronauts Luca Parmitano and Andrew Morgan from Expedition 61 performed a spacewalk on Saturday to install a new cooling system on the International Space Station’s (ISS) Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS)

The AMS is an experiment on the ISS, aimed at searching for cosmic rays, dark matter and dark energy.

Footage shows the astronauts carrying out the repairs, with views from their personal cameras. NASA wrote on Twitter that the upgrade mission was completed.

The AMS, also known as the cosmic ray detector, is responsible for helping scientists understand dark matter and to identify its role in the origin of the universe. It cost a reported $2 billion (€1.8 billion) to produce.
