Wink
Osim toga, ribe vole potopljene brodove.  Smiley

Normalan kapetan brine o točki A do točke B.

Norwegian frigate HNOMS Helge Ingstad returns to water

The Royal Norwegian Navy frigate HNoMS Helge Ingstad was refloated on April 10, less than six weeks after she was transported to the Haakonsvern navy base from the seafloor in Hjeltefjorden.

Prior to her raising and transport, the frigate spent several months almost completely submerged after colliding with with commercial tanker Sola TS on November 8, 2018. The frigate was transported to Haakonsvern in an operation carried out by Norwegian authorities and heavy lift vessel operator BOA Management.

After over a month of welding operations, which focused on the underwater portion of the frigate’s hull, Helge Ingstad was floated out from the chartered submersible barge “Boa barge 33”. Work on the ship will continue in a dry dock at the navy base and a final damage assessment report is expected to be completed before the end of the summer.

The report is expected to have a significant influence on the Norwegian defense ministry’s decision on whether the ship would be restored or scrapped. HNoMS Helge Ingstad collided with a tanker in the Hjeltefjorden fjord near Bergen at 4:26 (local time) on November 8. Following the collision, all 137 crew were evacuated while the frigate was intentionally grounded in an attempt to prevent her from sinking in deep water. However, the frigate slipped from the rocks and sank almost completely, with only her mast showing.

The Norwegian Accident Investigation Board’s (AIBN) preliminary report into the collision blamed both ships’ watchstanders for the accident. The report further claimed that the frigate’s Spanish builder Navantia was responsible for the ship’s eventual sinking.

Norway Will Scrap Sunken Frigate
By Kyle Mizokami   Jun 24, 2019

It would cost more to repair the damaged ship than to purchase a replacement.

The Norwegian government has decided to scrap a guided missile frigate that was heavily damaged in a late 2018 accident. HNoMS Helge Instag collided with an oil tanker, ran aground, and later sank off the coast of Norway. Oslo says it would cost more to repair the ship than to purchase a replacement.

On November 8, 2018, Helge Ingstad collided with the civilian oil tanker Sola TS. Badly damaged in the collision, the frigate’s crew intentionally ran her aground on a stretch of rocky coastline to prevent her sinking. The frigate ended up sinking anyway when pulled off the rocks, briefly turning into a submarine. Eight Navy sailors suffered minor injuries during the collision and the subsequent running aground.

According to Norwegian news sources, the government made the decision to scrap the ship when it became clear it was cheaper to buy a new ship instead of repair the stricken one. It will reportedly cost 12 to 14 billion Norwegian krone to repair the ship, or $1.4 to $1.6 billion dollars. A new ship, on the other hand, will cost 11 to 13 billion krone, or $1.3 or $1.5 billion. Scrapping the ship will cost $11 million alone. The government thinks it can reuse between $11 and $44 million worth of parts and equipment salvaged from the ship.

Helge Ingstad was one of the five ships of the Fritjof Nansen class of frigates. Built at Navantia, Spain, it was 9 years old at the time of collision. Helge Ingstad was armed with a 76-millimeter dual-purpose gun, eight Naval Strike Missiles, 32 ESSM surface-to-air missiles, four anti-submarine torpedoes, and a NH-90 helicopter. The Nansens are the smallest ships ever built with the U.S. Navy’s Aegis Combat System. Several of the weapons, including the anti-submarine torpedoes, were removed from the ship by authorities and detonated ashore.

It isn’t clear what ship will replace Ingstad. Norway lost 20 percent of its surface combatants in a single accident and that capability needs to be replaced. For now, the Norwegian Navy is running the remaining four ships with extra crews, allowing them to make more patrols.

Norway could have Navantia build another ship to the same blueprints, but there were reports Ingstad’s sinking was accelerated due to a fault in the ship’s design, which allowed seawater to enter the ship through hollow propeller shafts. Norway will want that flaw fixed, as well as additional flaws in existing ships, before ordering a new frigate from the Spanish shipyard. While Norway could order ships from another shipyard, operating two different ship types would be a logistical hassle.
