New Unmanned Sea Vehicles are coming to Turkish seas

ASELSAN and SEFİNE Shipyard are developing new unmanned sea vehicles for the security of the Blue Homeland. The two new Unmanned Naval Vehicles, whose production has begun, will be used in tasks such as autonomous reconnaissance-intelligence, surface warfare, underwater warfare, base/port/critical facility and protection of high-value floating platforms. With the ceremony held at SEFİNE Shipyard, the block assembly activities of the Autonomous and Herd Capable Armed Unmanned Surface Warfare Vehicle were started. At the same ceremony, the sheet metal cutting of the Autonomous and Swarm Capable Unmanned Anti-Submarine Warfare Vehicle was also carried out. Both vessels are capable of speeding in excess of 40 knots. Autonomous vehicles with a range of more than 600 nautical miles will serve for about four days without the need for resupply. With their high maneuverability and speed, autonomous sea vehicles will perform flawless duties and cruising even in the most challenging sea situations.

Turkey readies Unmanned Surface Vessels for herd mission

Works on unpiloted and autonomous products under the roof of the Turkish defense industry, which were pioneered the country’s unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), has expanded to marine crafts as well. The country has already revealed its first armored unmanned surface vessel (AUSV), which underwent trials in February this year. Then in May, it hit a target with pinpoint accuracy in its first firing conducted as part of the Sea Wolf (Denizkurdu) 2021 military exercise. Ismail Demir, head of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), told Anadolu Agency (AA) Monday that the country has developed a certain capability in the field of unpiloted systems that is matched by only a limited number of countries worldwide. “We have completed the first phase of the herd unmanned surface vessel (USV) project in which we aim to enable USVs to operate collectively along with autonomous missions,” he said, noting that more is to come. The project was initially kicked off within the scope of a cooperation agreement between the SSB and Turkish defense giant Aselsan. As part of the project, the Albatros-S, with more developed capabilities, has joined Aselsan’s Albatros unmanned surface target boat product family.
