The education of military pilots is a lengthy process. They have to cross many ladders and new possibilities are opened after each one. One of them is also the Specialization for flight instructors.

Being a flight instructor is a demanding job. It needs to teach a man who has never flown an airplane or helicopter that skill that is complicated theoretically and practically. But, the charm is in that. It is exactly that you will make a pilot of someone and say he flies because I taught him/her? 1LT Antonija Trupinić, a pilot of the helicopter Bell 206 described the job of a flight instructor. She and her fifteen colleagues are attendants of the tenth generation of the Specialization for flight instructors. They began with schooling in mid October in the Pilot School of the CAiF and AD of the 93rd AB Zemunik where they will attend a theoretical part of the teaching and then they will return to their squadrons to receive practical training.

Pilots who are sent to specialization are selected according to strictly established criteria. When he/she is ready for the first selection flying, a candidate for a pilot receives a personal file in which all his flights, work-related and other qualities are recorded. On basis of the overall monitoring during education it is defined who is suitable and who is not for the profile of the flight instructor. Those who want to be flight instructors on Pilatus and ZLIN, or rather Bell, can begin with education for flight instructors immediately after completion of the education, or rather after completion of the Basic Officers" School. Captains-pilots can undergo specialization for multiple seat airplanes, and for fighter airplanes, in our case MIG 21, pilots who underwent complete training on that airplane.

Schooling of the flight instructors is carried out in three modules. Everything begins with acquiring theoretical knowledge flight instructors should possess to be able to do their work well. Flight training is provided afterwards or rather vocational training of the flight instructors for flying from instructor"s seat. The third module is residency training flight instructor"s duties in units. Attendants of the school carry out the second module on types of airplanes in which they will be flight instructors. Theoretical part of the teaching is carried out in cooperation with the University in Zadar. Having passed theory with success and in order to earn the vocation of a flight instructor, they need to receive training in air. The training in air for classical education of flight instructors, for example on Pilatus and Bell lasts three to four months of intensive flying and in this process about 76 to 80 hours of passes are realized. Three months of internship await them or rather independent work of leading a teaching group with mentorship of an experienced flight instructor. Besides knowledge and experience, flight instructors, our interlocutors said, should also have enough patience, will and motivation.

The first school for flight instructors was organized in 1993 in Pilot School Zemunik. It is carried in dependence on requirements of the CAiF, and the ninth generation completed education three years ago.

Attendant of the tenth generation of the Specialization for flight instructors is also 1LT Robert Mitrovski, a pilot of the Macedonian Air Force. He is the first pilot from Macedonia who receives education abroad and at the same time, he is the first pilot from another country who receives education in Croatian Air Force.
