Even before the accession of Croatia to NATO, various forms of officers and NCO education at Croatian Defence Academy were also attended by soldiers from a series of foreign countries. Those were attendees from the USA, Germany, Slovenia, Ukraine, but before all, from countries of our closest surrounding who are today aspirants for entry into the Alliance.

From the list of foreign attendees who receive education in the current (2009/10) academic year, it is visible that in addition to one attendant from Slovenia, it is manned with the names that come from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro. Well, it is clear that the countries from the Region recognized high standards that the CDA has accepted within the accession of the Republic of Croatia to NATO. The standards, it is clear, correspond to their requirements in service of accomplishing the goal: full membership. Croatia gives a good example because it has recently passed a similar pathway and the understanding of Croatian language is surely an alleviating fact.

New concepts of education and updating curricula have for the better part succeeded in implementing NATO doctrines and documents into all models of education, the Commandant of the CDA MG Mirko Šundov explained to us. It is also known that efforts have been made for the last couple of years to improve the working and living conditions of the attendees and employees, having in mind that the teaching conditions can already be called pronouncedly good. One of the key moves will be declaring the programmes of education in English language. With the fulfilment of that and several other steps, ?the Academy will be completely equal and competitive to similar institutions in NATO countries. To summarize, it was announced that there will be more foreign attendees in the future and the CDA"s employees are looking forward to that because that will also be a proof of the quality and international relevance of the Academy.

Foreign attendee, as it is claimed at the Academy, show seriousness and a very high level of motivation and dedication during education and they achieve outstanding results. For example, the present Defence Attaches of France, Germany and Ukraine received education at the CDA and many officers from the Region earned noticeable promotions. Good impressions of the foreigners are significant. They strengthen international cooperation and trust among allies and partners, but also confirm the quality of our military educational system.
