The Tiger I & II and well known, but there was a third type of Tiger tank, with just a handful manufactured - the Porsche Tiger VK. 4501.

Michael Wittmann's devastating ambush of a British armoured column at Villers-Bocage on 13 June 1944 is one of the most shocking examples of how effective the Tiger I could be in the hands of an experienced crew.

The story of how Germany's greatest tank ace, Michael Wittmann, met his end at the hands of a British Sherman Firefly during the Normandy breakout in August 1944.

The British harboured a long-held desire to capture a German Tiger tank for study. They managed to achieve that ambition at Point 174 in Tunisia in April 1943. That Tiger still exists today.

Two King Tigers staged an extraordinary last stand near the Reichstag in Berlin during the final days of the terrible battle for the capital. They destroyed literally hundreds of Soviet tanks, demonstrating that the King Tiger was probably the most formidable tank of WW2 and a superb defensive weapon in the right hands.

The Jagdtiger or Hunting Tiger, at 72 tons the heaviest armoured vehicle of the war and plagued by mechanical problems, nonetheless managed to spring some nasty and very costly ambushes on the advancing US Army in April 1945.

One of the weirdest tanks used by the Germans in WWII, the Sturmtiger was a massive rocket propelled mortar mounted on a Tiger I hull. Devastating when used properly, only 19 examples of this odd creation were built, all seeing action, particularly on the Western Front during the last months of the war.

The Battle of Chaumont near Bastogne on 23 December 1944 is reputed to be the first appearance of the fearsome but flawed Jagdtiger or "Hunting Tiger", the largest tank used in WW2.

Known variously as the Tiger Ausf. B, Tiger II or Königstiger (the British also referred to it as the `Royal Tiger’), 489 Tiger IIs, were produced at the Henschel assembly plant, between January 1944 and March 1945. However, despite lacking in numbers, and being prone to mechanical and mobility issues based on its size and weight, the Tiger IIs combination of devastating firepower, and thick sloped armour plate, made it a formidable adversary.
