Parni brodovi su najviše dimili kod parospremanja, dok turboventilatori još nisu mogli napraviti propuh kroz kotlove i dati ugljenu ili nafti dovoljno kosika za potpuno izgaranje. Slično se dešavalo kod promjena režima vožnje. kad se režim ustalio, regulirala se dobava zraka tako da je izgaranje bilo bezdimno. Na razaraču Split (a i na drugim brodovima) je postojao poseban periskop kojim je zapovjednik smjene mogao kontrolirati boju dima i tome prilagoditi rad kotlova. Periskop je išao uz dimnjak.

Csepel na popravku u Rijeci; 4.5.1916. nakon napada od strane francuske podmornice Bernoulli blizu San Rema; 13 mrtvih i 9 ranjenih. U brodogradilistu Porto Re (Kraljevica) dobio novu krmu od razaraca Triglav II. Na krmenom dijelu se vidi dvostruki torpedni aparat s torpedima od 45 cm podignutim od siline udara.
