The jet went down near a military base in South Carolina on the same day the first F-35B jets landed on the HMS Queen Elizabeth- the pilot managed to eject to safety. The Ministry of Defence said that trials of the F-35 on the Royal Navy's aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth were continuing. A MoD spokesman said: 'Safety is our paramount concern, therefore the UK has decided to pause some F-35 flying as a precautionary measure while we consider the findings of an ongoing inquiry. 'F-35 flight trials from the aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, are continuing and the programme remains on schedule to provide our armed forces with a game-changing capability. 'We will continue to review the situation as further information becomes available.'
