It celebrates the German U-boats, and features Type IX (9) U-boats U-41, U-38 and U-37. (U-41 was sunk February 5, 1940 south of Ireland by the HMS Antelope during war maneuvers, so likely this film predates the outbreak of hostilities in WWII.) The film starts with U-boats deploying to sea in a wolfpack. At :39 the alert has sounded after an enemy convoy is sighted and the crew dives the boat. At 1:20 the boat submerges. At 2:01 the boat's periscope is visible over a calm ocean. At 2:19 the captain of the U-boat sees an enemy destroyer coming in for a depth charge run. At 2:40 torpedo tubes are prepared and the boat surfaces (2:50). At 3:20 the crew mans the deck gun and opens fire on an enemy warship (a move which, in actual combat, would have proved quite fatal!) https://youtu.be/O3IkT7ELZ9g |
