(Zero-Length Launch ili Zero-Length Take-Off , a košćene su i skraćenice : ZLL, ZLTO, ZEL, ZELL). [attachment=1] U okviru programa ZEL, testirani su sledeći avioni: Republic F-84G Thunderjet North American F-100D Super Sabre Lockheed F-104 Starfighter North American XF-108 Rapier Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow Ruski program zasnovan na ovom sistemu prošao je : Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-19SM-30 "Farmer" U vreme nastanka ovog programa NATO stratezi su pošli od pretpostavke mogućeg iznendnog vazdušnog udara po aerodromskoj mreži zapadne evrope, i njeno onesposobljavanje za uzvratni vazdušni udar. Program je uspešno završen, ali bez uvođenja u operativnu upotrebu. Zaključili su da i ovako "lansirani" avioni imaju potrebu da slete na neki aerodrom. Program je obustavljen na račun aviona STOL i VTOL karakteristika. Od ukupno proizvedenih, pola se srusilo, preko 500 pilota raznih zemalja je poginilo leteci na njemu i stotine prezivelih invalida. Pri manevrisanju je ulazio u nekontrolisanu vrtnju koju je bilo nemoguce zaustaviti.

Konstruktori nisu mogli popraviti problem bez konstruisanja novog krila. A to im nije dozvoljeno zbog proizvodnje. |
