Title: Podmornica USS Cobia Post by: Hare on May 15, 2010, 10:59:37 am Prije dvije godine bio sam u gradicu Manitowoc, drzava Wisconsin, u kojem je smjesten Wisconsin Maritime Museum. Izmedju ostalog, izlozena je podmornica USS Cobia ( SS 245 ), klase Gato.
U ovom mjestu bilo je smjesteno brodogradiliste Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, osnovano 1902, a u periodu WW2, izgradilo je 28 podmornica ove klase. Na internetu ima dosta podatak o svemu ovome, pa da ne prepisujem, postavicu par podaka o podmornici USS Cobia, te fotografije koje sam napravio prilikom posjete. USS Cobia ( SS 245 ) Laid down 17 Mar 1943 , Launched 28 Nov 1943 , Commissioned 29 Mar 1944 , End service 19 Mar 1954. 26 Jun 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) departs Pearl Harbor for her 1st war patrol. She is ordered to patrol in the Bonin Islands area. 6 Jul 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) sinks the Japanese guardboat Takamiya Maru (138 GRT) with gunfire east of Ogasawara-Gunto in position 28º54'N, 150º50'E. 13 Jul 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese army cargo ship Taishi Maru (2813 GRT) about 190 nautical miles north-west of Chichi Jima, Bonin Islands in position 27º25'N, 140º30'E. 18 Jul 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese auxiliary gunboat Unkai Maru No.10 (851 GRT) north-west of Chichi Jima in position 29º15'N, 139º10'E and the Japanese army cargo ship Nisshu Maru (7785 GRT) west of Chichi Jima in position 28º17'N, 139º00'E 20 Jul 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) sinks the Japanese auxiliary submarine chasers Yusen Maru No.3 (193 GRT) and Kaio Maru No.2 (62 GRT) north-west of Ogasawara-Gunto in position 28º06'N, 141º32'E. 5 Aug 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) sinks the Japanese transport ship Yayoi Maru (495 GRT). 14 Aug 1944 - (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) ends her 1st war patrol at Majuro. 6 Sep 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) departs Majuro for her 2nd war patrol. She is ordered to patrol in the Luzon Strait. 5 Nov 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) ends her 2nd war patrol at Fremantle, Australia. 30 Nov 1944 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) departs Fremantle for her 3rd war patrol. She is ordered to patrol in the South China Sea. 14 Jan 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese minelayer Yurijima (720 tons) off the east coast of Malaya some 70 miles east of Kota Bharu in position 05º45'N, 103º13'E. 24 Jan 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) ends her 3rd war patrol at Fremantle 18 Feb 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) departs Fremantle for her 4th war patrol. She is ordered to patrol in the Java Sea. 26 Feb 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt Cmdr Albert Lilly Becker) sinks two small Japanese vessels with gunfire in the Java Sea in position 06º07'S, 114º06'E, however she is damaged by return gunfire from one of the Japanese craft, this kills one crewman and damages the radar equipment. 4 Mar 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) interrups her 4th war patrol at Fremantle to make repairs to her radar. 8 Mar 1945 - With her repairs completed USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) departs Fremantle to continue her 4th war patrol. 15 Apr 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) ends her 4th war patrol at Subic Bay, Philippines. 9 May 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) departs Subic Bay for her 5th war patrol. She is ordered to patrol in the gulf of Siam. 8 Jun 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese survey ship (used as transport) Hakusa (6799 tons) and the Japanese tanker Nanshin Maru No.22 (834 GRT) off southern French Indochina in position 08º56'N, 105º37'E. 18 Jun 1945 USS Cobia (Lt.Cdr. A.L. Becker) ends her 5th war patrol at Fremantle. 18 Jul 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt Cmdr Frederick N. Russell) departs Fremantle for her 6th war patrol, and is ordered to patrol off Formosa. 22 Aug 1945 - USS Cobia (Lt Cmdr Frederick N. Russell) ends her 6th war patrol at Saipan.
