The aircraft was leader of a wing of 2 aircraft, practising a low-level night time sortie.
Debris found this morning, the airframe broke apart and formed a crater that was subsequently filled with water seeping in from a nearby pond.
No emergency beacon was activated, the status of the crew of 2 is unknown at this time, although hopes are fading.
Fog has been hampering the search and rescue activities.
In an unrelated accident, a french air force NCO died yesterday after falling from a French Air Force Cougar helicopter whilst on approach for a landing.
Apparently he was not wearing a safety harness, and fell from the aircraft whilst opening the cabin sliding door.
The aircraft and crew were from the GAM-56 squadron attached to covert operations.
All in all, a sad day for both the French Air Force and the US Air Force....
