Do sredine 1917g talijaska avijacija je imala uglavnom francuske lovačke avione.Sredinom 1916g inž. Umberto Savola i Rodolfo Verduzio uz pomoć inž.Celestino Rosatelli odlučili da naprave lovački avion,koji bi bio ravan najboljim lovcima tog vremena.Do decembra iste godine su završili konstrukciju i dobili su dozvolu od ministarstva za izradu. Societa Ansaldo je preuzela izradu aviona,sa oznakom SVA -prva dva slova su od Savola i Verduzio,a zadnje od Ansaldo.Prvi je poleteo 17 marta 1917g.To je bio avion drvene konstrukcije,trup presvučen lepenkom a krila i rep platnom.Trup je bio uzan,i sve tanji ka repu,što je pilotu omogućavalo dobar pogled,imao je motor sa vodenim hladjenjem SPA-6 od 205k.s.Naoružanje dva sinhronizovana mitraljeza 7,7mm.
Avion se odlikovao sa W upornicama izmedju krila.Tokom ispitivanja ustanovljeno je da ima dobru brzinu i upravljivost,ali mu je manevarska sposobnost nedovoljna za lovca.
Medjutim odlična stabilnost u letu i veliki dolet su bile osobine za izvidjača.Zato je dobio naziv lovac-izvidjač i prvi ,pod oznakom SVA-2 ,su isporučeni vojsci u jesen 1917g.Deo je pretvoren u avione za obuku i trenažu.

SVA-5 je bio verzija za izvidjanje i bombardovanje.Ispod trupa je mogao da ponese nekoliko bombi.Ovaj model je najviše pravljen,čak 1248 ptimeraka od 1917-1918.Pravljen je u dve varijante,kao bobarder-izvidjač i kao lovac za podršku na velikim daljinama,koji je mogao da ponese dopunske rezervoare.
Proizvonja SVA je završena 1928g posle 2000 napravljenih aviona.Varijanta SVA-5 je posle rata imala novi motor Isotta -Fraschini V6 od 250k.s. koji je omogućavao brzinu od 240km/h.

 U vazduhoplovsvu SHS je bio samo jedan primerak SVA5 .On je pripadao talijanskom vazduhoplovstvu ,ali je juna 1919g prinudno sleteo u Sloveniji ,pa je zaplenjen.Taj primerak je imao motor S.P.A.6a od 220 k.s. Nosio je broj Br.12204.Ubrzo po zapleni ,doživljava udes u kom je uništen.

The Ansaldo SVA (named for Savoia-Verduzio-Ansaldo) was a family of Italian reconnaissance biplane aircraft of World War I and the decade after. Originally conceived as a fighter, the SVA was found inadequate for that role. Nevertheless, its impressive speed, range and operational ceiling, with its top speed making it one of the fastest (if not the fastest) of all Allied combat aircraft in World War I, gave it the right properties to be an excellent reconnaissance aircraft and even light bomber. Production of the aircraft continued well after the war, with the final examples delivered in 1928. Two minor variants were produced, one with reconnaissance cameras, the other without cameras but extra fuel tanks.

The SVA was a conventionally-laid out unequal-span biplane, featuring Warren Truss-style struts, and therefore having no transverse (spanwise) bracing wires. The plywood-skinned fuselage had the typical Ansaldo triangular rear cross-section behind the cockpit, transitioning to a rectangular cross section going forwards through the rear cockpit area, with a full rectangular cross section forward of the cockpit.

Ovo je ,navodno,slikano na nekom Italijanskom aerodromu.Meni ovaj pilot liči na nekog našeg.
Broj na avionu je 6764

Italijani su imali slične oficirske kape slične našima.
