Ethiopian federal forces are looking for the leaders of the Tigray People's Liberation Front after government soldiers entered the regional capital Mekelle, the Ethiopian national defence force chief said.

The Ethiopian government says its forces now control the whole region. State television showed weapons that it said the TPLF had hidden in churches. The TPLF leaders meanwhile promised to keep fighting.

Hundreds were reportedly killed and thousands displaced in the conflict.

Tigray TV shows the person & weapon which downed Ethiopian Mig 23 fighter jet

Tigray TV yesterday showed the person and the weapon which shot down Ethiopian Mig 23 fighter jet. On Sunday, Tigray fighters claimed to have shot down a Mig 23 fighter jet of Ethiopian air force near Abiy Addi town in Tigray region. Pilot of the Mig 23 was captured alive and burning wreckage of the place was also shown on Tigray TV. Yesterday Tigray TV interviewed a Tigray fighter who claimed to have brought down the Mig 23 with MANPADS. MANPADS generally target low flying objects with a surface-to-air missile. A fighter jet can only be shot down with MANPADS if it is flying at low altitude and at slow speed.
