Na zahtev oružanih snaga Indonezije za novi srednji tenk, Turska i Indonezije su 2014. pokrenule zajednički projekat pod nazivom Modern Medium Weight Tank (MMWT). Proizvod ovog projekta će kasnije dobiti naziv Kaplan (tigar) u Turskoj i Harimu (tigar) ili Harimu Hitam (crni tigar) u Indoneziji.

Srednji tenk Kaplan projektovan je za zadatke pružanja vatrene podrške pešadiji, uništavanjem vatrenih tačaka i oklopnih sredstava neprijatelja. Koncept tenka je objavljen 2016. Prvi prototip tenka proizveden je u Turskoj, dok je drugi proizveden u Indoneziji. Prototipovi su prvi put prikazani u javnosti godinu dana nakon što je objavljen koncept tenka, odnosno 2017.

Indonezija je 2019. naručila prvu seriju od 18 do 20 tenkova. Nakon nje, tenkove (po 40-50 primeraka) naručili su Bangladeš i Filipini; ove tenkove će zajednički proizvesti Turska i Indonezija.

Kaplan je opremljen dvočlanom kupolom, modela Cockerill 3105, koja je proizvod belgijske kompanije CMI Defence. Kupola je naoružana glatkocevnim topom kalibra 105 mm. Iz ovog topa se može ispaljivati sva standardna NATO municija kalibra 105 mm, među kojima su i pancirno-probojne, trenutno-fugasne, dimne i druge granate. Maksimalna daljina gađanja topom iznosi 4 000 metara. Top je opremljen automatskim punjačem, kapaciteta 16 projektila.

Sa topom je spregnut mitraljez kalibra 7,62 mm, dok se na krovu tenka može ugraditi i mitraljez kalibra 12,7 mm.

Iz tenkovskog topa je moguće lansirati i protivoklopne vođene rakete Falarick 105; ove laseerski vođene rakete imaju poluautomatski način vođenja i opremljene su sa tandem kumulativnom bojevom glavom. Ovom raketom moguće je dejstvovati po utvrđenim ciljevima i oklopnim sredstvima nepriajtelja na daljinama do 5 000 metara.

U tenk je ugrađen i moderni sistem za upravljanje vatrom, sa laserskim daljinomerom i nišanskom spravom sa termovizijskim kanalom. Pored SUV, tenk na raspolaganju ima i neki vrstu komandno-informacionog sistema, kao i kamere koje mu pružaju pregled situacije oko tenka u krugu od 360°.

Oklopna zaštita tenka je modularna. Dodatni oklop se može ugraditi kako bi tenk dostigao veći stepen zaštite, zavisno od zahteva misije. Masa rtenka se kreće od 32 do 35 tona, zavisno od konfiguracije oklopne zaštite. Osnovni oklop pruža zaštitu od dejstva pancirno-probojnih projektila kalibra 14,5 mm, dok dodatni oklop štiti od dejstva pancirno-probojnih projektila kalibra 25 mm.

Kada je reč o oklopnoj zaštiti tenka, treba napomenuti da je posebna pažnja posvećena zaštiti dna tenka, koja obezbeđuje zaštitu Kaplana od eksplozije mine ekvivalenta 10 kg TNT.

Pored oklopne zaštite, tenk raspolaže i sistemom RHB zaštite, automatskim sistemom za gašenje požara. Pored toga, ugrađen je i sistem upozorenja laserskog ozračenja, koji aktivira bacače dimnih kutija i na taj način smanjuje šansu pogađanja protivoklopnom vođenom raketom sa laserskim vođenjem.

Posadu tenka čini tri člana: komandir, vozač i nišandžija.

Tenk je pogonjen dizel motorom snahe 650 KS, smeštenim u zadnjem delu oklopnog tela. Motor je uparen sa automatskom transmisijom, a pored njega, tenk raspolaže i pomoćnim pogonom, koji pokreće kupolu i elektro sisteme i puni akumulatore kada je glavni motor isključen.

FNSS is showcasing for the first time at Indodefence its MEDIUM TANK, a tank that has been adapted to today’s asymmetric warfare conditions. The Medium Tank is locally known as the Harimau (Javanese Tiger).

The Medium tank is the first produced tank under development by Pindad and Turkish Company, FNSS. Medium Tank equipped with the latest generation turret from CMI Defense. Medium Tank has the latest ballistic defense capability and anti-mine threat. It Have high firing power, high accuracy, a wide selection of ammunition, superior tactical and strategic mobility. Medium Tank have passed the tests from Dislitbangad (TNI AD Research & Development Unit), including mine blast test, mobility, performance, endurance and firing test.

The Medium Tank is equipped with the latest technology, such as a self-awareness system, hunter killer system, passive protection (laser warning system), battle management system, and protection up to level 5. Medium tank turrets have an autoloader mechanism with 12 bullets in the turret and 26 items reserve bullets in the hull.

The Pindad medium tank weighs 30 tons, power to weight ratio 24 HP / ton, maximum speed of more than 70 km / hour, can accommodate 3 crew members consisting of commanders, shooters and drivers, and has a main weapon of 105 mm turret has a large destructive power.

This Modern Medium Weight Tank introduced to public at Indonesian's army anniversary 2017 and better known at Indodefence 2018. Now Pindad is ready for mass production of the medium Tank to fulfill Indonesian Army (TNI) needs and Export.

Ne mogu nači podatak dali je top glatkocevni ili ožlebljeni.
Čudno mi se čini da bi iz glatkocevnog topa ipaljivali municiju, namenjenu za ožljebljene cevi. Mislim može se ali je pitanje preciznosti.

Description
The 105 mm CV rifled gun is fitted with a single-stage muzzle brake, thermal sleeve and fume extractor. To reduce recoil forces below 150 kN, the barrel is fitted with a highly efficient muzzle brake and two parallel recoil brakes. The barrel is of Electro-Slag Refined (ESR) steel and has a 20 per cent supplementary pressure margin for future growth potential. It is fitted with a semi-automatic vertical sliding breech mechanism and an electrical ignition mechanism. The 105 mm CV rifled gun can fire all NATO standard ammunition to defeat armour, troops, weapon emplacements, bunkers, fortified structures, buildings and similar. In developing the weapon other ammunition related developments have been taken into account, including smart ammunition and guided munitions. Particular attention has been paid to safety and comfort of the crew. The crew is seated low in the turret to take advantage of the vehicle hull protection. For safety reasons too, the crew and ammunition compartments are independent and separated by a firewall; in addition, crew protection is ensured thanks to a safety fuse plate above the ammunition rack. The Cockerill CT-CV 105HP turret is equipped with a full autoloader ammunition rack, with a capacity of 12 ready rounds in lightweight configuration, and 15 ready rounds in standard configuration (additional rounds will be stowed in the vehicle allowing reloading under armor). After tests in Scotland during year 2010, the Weapon System Cockerill CT-CV 105HP can firing now the anti-tank missile Falarick 105 from the Cockerill 105 mm CV gun. With its laser beam guidance system, the Falarick 105 is able to wipe out fixed & moving armoured targets, helicopters and fortifications at a distance of 10 kilometres in indirect engagement thanks to its +42° gun elevation. Its tandem hollow-charged warhead allows it to destroy targets under 550 mm of armour and behind ERA or their equivalent.
