Brod ruske ratne mornarice slučajno je granatirao selo blizu Sankt Peterburga, izjavili su ruski zvaničnici.
U incidentu, koji se dogodio sinoć, niko nije povređen.

Regionalni vojni tužilac Igor Lebedev rekao je da je brod za borbu s podmornicama bio na vežbi i da su neke granate pale na kuće blizu mesta Pesočnoje.

Agencija Interfaks navela je da je najviše 14 raketa promašilo mete. Za sada nije poznato kolike su bile rakete niti koliko je štete naneto.

Russian Navy accidentally hits farm during live-firing exercises

MOSCOW/ST. PETERSBURG, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian Baltic Fleet anti-submarine vessel accidentally shot at a farm in the northwest of the country during live-firing exercises.

No one was hurt or killed in the incident.

A military source said that the Russian vessel was in the Gulf of Finland on Thursday evening when it mistakenly opened fire on a farm in the Vyborg region.

"A large farm was fired upon," Vasily Kozlov, the head of the Polyansk village administration told RIA Novosti. He said the farmers reported that a car window had been damaged, but that there was no other damage.

Tatyana Kostaryova, a spokeswoman for the Vyborg administration, said nine to 15 automatic cannon shots were fired

"This is, of course, a disgrace, people could have died. This is the height of the planting season and there are a lot of people at the farm," Kostaryova added.

"Was it frightening? That's not the word for it. It was a metal hail. People took cover in basements. One farmer, who was walking with his grandson, threw himself onto the child to shield him," Yury Mikhailov, the head of the farm, said.

He also said that most of the shrapnel, the largest of which was 11 centimeters in length, fell on rooftops and greenhouses.

The Leningrad Navy Base has also confirmed the report and said the vessel fired 30-mm AK-630 cannon shells.

Military authorities have opened an investigation into the incident.

Navy ship shells village near St Petersburg

A ship of the Russian Baltic Fleet gave one hell of a scare to residents of a coastal village when it unexpectedly shelled them with an autocannon.

A corvette-class antisubmarine vessel was on exercise in the Gulf of Finland on Thursday. For reasons yet to be determined it shot several shells from its autocannon into the air over the local village Pesochnoe. According to Interfax news agency, the incident happened when the vessel was returning to its base in Kronshtadt seaport.

Thankfully no-one was hurt, and the damage reported by one resident was a little crack in a car windshield caused by a shell fragment which fell on it. Nonetheless, local residents were shaken.

“It was like metal hail! People ran to take cover in basements. One guy was in the orchard with his grandson. He fell on the kid and covered him with his body till the shelling was over,” told the community head to RIA Novosti agency.

The shell fragments were collected by police and delivered to the military prosecutors’ office.

A total of 14 shells from the ship’s AK-630 air defense cannon exploded over the village. The autocannon is a 30mm caliber six-barrel model with a rate of fire of up to 5,000 rpm and a maximum range of 4,000 meters. It usually operates in volleys of 400 shells and is used against aerial and sometimes surface targets. Each high-explosive shell weighs 400 grams and contains about 50 grams of explosives.

None of the victims of the attack voiced their intention to file a lawsuit against the Navy for the moment.

Military prosecutors are now investigating what made the crew target the civilian settlement. They have said no criminal charges will be pressed against sailors and officers involved.
