Podataka na pozadini fotografije nema, ali ako je sudeći po fotopapiru, snimljeno je u ranim tridesetima ...

Hello,
do you know how did Vergada (ex Orao) get to Malta in September 1943? Where was this vessel based at the time of Italian Armistice? Was it difficult to get to Malta? Actually I have got same questions to 4 other ex Yugoslav vessels - Fata (ex Vila), Meleda (ex Mljet), Solta (ex Meljine) and Ugliano (ex Marjan).
Many thanks in advance for any info.
Best greetings from Poland
Grzegorz

Sorry that I´m a little bit late with this answer, but I have found the question only now. According to the Italian official naval history (La Marina dall´8 settember 1943 alla fine del conflitto, published by Ufficio storico della Marina militare, Rome 1962), VERGADA was part of a three ship detachment that arrived to Saseno (an island in front of Valona/Albania) in the night of 9/10 September 1943, coming from Argostoli in Greece. Other two vessels were MAS 517 and submarine chaser PASMAN (probably not identical with the mine-layer PASMAN, former RYN MOSOR), and the detachment was commanded by capitano di corveta (Lt. Commander) Girolamo Delfino. The soldiers and sailors at Saseno were ordered by the local command from Valona to surrender the island and to destroy their weapons, but local commander asked his superior command at Brindisi for instructions. Finally he was ordered by Admiral de Courten to leave Saseno and evacuate his personnel to Brindisi. The soldiers were evacuated on 19 small vessels and boats, escorted by three vessels of LtCdr Delfino, and arrived to Brindisi on 11 September. There all vessels were put under control of the Allies, and cooperated with the Royal Navy as the Extended Defence Office, responsible for anti-submarine war. So it seems that VERGADA came only later to Malta (or directly to Yugoslavia in 1945), when the second batch of former Royal Yugoslav Warships were returned to Yugoslavia. The identity of this PASMAN is not clear: if it was former RYN minelayer, than she escaped to the Germans, and was lost by stranding in December 1943. When it was another vessel with the same name (presumably smaller submarine chaser), I ´ll try to identify her. Greetings!

Thanks a lot for your post. It is really very interesting. Now it is more clear for me about VERGADA and Italian Armistice. I wonder whether there are any info about FATA (ex Vila), LEVRERA (ex Klis), MELEDA (ex Mljet), SOLTA (ex Meljine) or UGLIANO (ex Marjan). Any information about naval activities between Brindisi and Albanian coast in those days is much appreciated by me. Regarding PASMAN I know that there was also a small yugoslavian coastal passenger ship of this name which was seized by Italians (could be used as submarine chaser. Thanks again and looking forward for getting any further info from you.

The Storia Militare of March have photos of Kobac and Orao as anti-submarine - they had sonar installed - ships in Italian navy. The main guns seems to have been replaced.
I'll try to get copy of photos.

Exactly when I have terminated my Storia militare abonment... But Cobac? Similarily to "Junac neznani" (=unknown teenage calf...).
