Originally known as the Ferdinand, then later renamed Elefant, 90 of this heavily armed and armoured vehicle were built, seeing service in the Soviet Union, Italy and Germany.

Although deployed as a tank destroyer, the Elefant had its origins in Ferdinand Porsche’s attempt to build what became the Tiger tank.

This particular Elefant is part of The Tiger Collection at The Tank Museum, Bovington, on loan from the US Army Ordnance Training and Heritage Center, VA.

Known variously as the Tiger Ausf. B, Tiger II or Königstiger (the British also referred to it as the `Royal Tiger’), 489 Tiger IIs, were produced at the Henschel assembly plant, between January 1944 and March 1945. However, despite lacking in numbers, and being prone to mechanical and mobility issues based on its size and weight, the Tiger IIs combination of devastating firepower, and thick sloped armour plate, made it a formidable adversary.

Story of Tiger 231, the tank the Soviets could not kill at Kursk, no matter how many times it was hit by anti-tank shells.

Story of how two rare SS King Tigers from the same unit, Heavy SS Panzer Battalion 101, ended up in two of the world's most famous tank museums, Bovington and Munster.

The authorized strength of a Heavy Tank Battalion (Schwere Panzer-Abteilung) was 45 Tigers, yet such a unit also around 879 men assigned. The question is, why so many men for just 45 tanks? In this video we look at the organization of a Tiger Battalion based on German Tables of Organization and Equipment (TOE) or as the Germans called them Kriegsstärkenachweisungen (KStN).

Based on Documents from February 1945 „Guidelines for the Employment of the Assault Mortar Battery 38 cm RW 61” (“Richtlinien für den Einsatz der Sturmmörser-Batterie 38 cm RW 61“) we look in this video on how a Sturmtiger Battery was used and also some aspects of the vehicle that are usually not (or maybe have never been covered) in the literature as well.

This is the story of the last eight King Tigers, with unusual 'Octopus' camouflage, that rolled off the production line in Kassel and straight into battle against the US Army in April 1945.
